As with virtually every morning we spent in Luang Prabang, our morning began with the procession of monks collecting their daily alms. From there we headed out of town towards Kuang Si Falls. This is considered one of the most popular daytrips out of Luang Prabang and It is possible to hire a tuk-tuk from the main street in town for the ride out. With 5 in our group, it worked out to be pretty much the same cost to go with our guide and share the cost of the transportation.

You often hear people give the advice to enjoy the journey as well as the destination. This was very much the case that day. One of the best parts of this particular day trip was the incredible scenery we passed on the way to and from the falls. We asked the driver to pull off the road more than once to take some photos during the 20 mile ride.

After the gorgeous drive, we arrived at the grounds of the Kuang Si Falls and journeyed away from the parking lot walking along a jungle trail. Along the way we saw a few structures and clearings that were for the use of visitors. As we got closer, the sound of the water fall got louder and louder until we eventually came to a series of cascading pools at the bottom of the falls. While there was some current, it wasn’t very strong and we gave into the temptation to take a cooling swim.

We didn’t attempt to climb to the top of the falls but there are actually a couple spots on the cliff where water is falling.

Our day ended with more of the great views of the countryside and of the city of Luang Prabang as we returned to the city.
